Exhibitor interview: Tribotecc

In this exhibitor interview we spoke to Clemens Kappl, Head of Market & Technologies at Tribotecc GmbH.

Tribotecc is the world’s leading manufacturer of various special metal sulfides for a wide range of applications including friction, lubricants, powder metallurgy, electronics and polymers industries. In polymers, these functional additives are used as solid lubricants in technical and high-engineered thermoplastic compounds such as PA, PPA, POM, PEEK, PTFE… as well as thermoplastic elastomers to improve tribological properties such as wear and coefficient of friction.

What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

We are offering a wide range of customized synthetic solutions supported by our reliable test data from our tribological competence center in our facility in Austria. We have a global supply network for on time deliveries in large tonnages and guarantee high valuable and constant product quality. We are listed as a lead registrant under REACH for various substances like tin sulfides, bismuth sulfides, tungsten sulfides, copper sulfides and many more.

Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?

We have developed several new synthetic, light-colored and light-weight metal sulfide systems as alternative to existing and outdated graphites, molybdenum disulfides or silicon oils with better wear and μ- performance for modern polymer compounds. Furthermore we do have possibilities to offer these solid lubricants in granulated form as well for an easy and dust-free handling.

What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today and how can this be overcome?

The light-weight driven shift from steel/iron towards polymers is becoming more and more challenging for the development of high stressed components in motion such as gear wheels, bearings, values, pumps etc. To fulfill the requirements of the automotive industry it is necessary to understand material science and functionality of polymer systems.

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

We are facing very dynamic and fast moving times and it is hardly unpredictable to give an outlook for the next ten years, however the tendencies regarding sustainability,  e-mobility and digitalization are evident.

What are you most looking forward to at this years’ show?

After that long period of covid-isolation I am really looking forward to meet people in person again for some nice talks and business opportunities.

Tribotecc will be exhibiting at Compounding World Expo Europe.
